Key Stage 4 (KS4)
Year 10, Year 11, Year 12

Curriculum / Key Stage 4

Pupils entering Secondary and following a British curriculum pathway study KS3 in a condensed two-year programme, followed by IGCSEs in Year 9 (Pre IG) and Year 10, and A-Levels in Years 11 and 12. As with Primary, the Cambridge International curriculum (CIE); forms the framework upon which we design our learning programme.

Also, pupils study the non-core subjects which include History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages (French & German), Computing, Design & Technology (DT), Computing (ICT), Music, Physical Education (PE), and Citizenship. We follow the statutory curriculum of the Ministry of Education for Arabic, Islamic Education and Arabic Social Studies. Success for our pupils requires knowing about learning and how it works.

Pupils must develop critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills to succeed in our fluid, interconnected and complex world. We offer traditional academic subjects as well as Expressive Arts which help develop pupils sense of identity. We provide a blended learning environment combining traditional methods and e-learning. Global Perspectives is embedded throughout our Key Stage 3 curriculum, enabling learners to appreciate and value local, national and global culture.

Pupils embark on their IGCSE courses in Key Stage 4 and choose six optional courses after being guided through the Graduation process. In Years 11 and 12 pupils partake their IGCSE examinations. Those who wish to continue, follow personalised A and AS pathways, the change in curriculum reflecting an emphasis in preparing pupils for top universities.

We empower our pupils to have a say in the life of the school, contribute to society and be confident, independent young leaders who can make informed choices regarding their futures. Assessment is a continuous process, summative and formative at the heart of teaching and learning.

Assessment is used to set high expectations of all our pupils, to celebrate achievement and to inform parents and teachers of the next steps to inform learning. Our assessment and reporting system includes an ongoing assessment which includes questioning, dialogue and observation. Success criteria are discussed with pupils during lessons and work is assessed against the criteria pupils’ work is reviewed by other pupils, peers and teaching staff.

Formal Examinations take place twice a year for pupils in Years 7-9. Pupils sit IGCSE /GCSEs at the end of Year 10 and Advanced Supplementary Level and A-Levels in Years 11 and 12. Pupils also sit Cognitive Abilities tests in Years 8 and 10 to aid teacher planning. Year 9 pupils take Cambridge International Checkpoint Diagnostic Tests in English, Maths and Science.
